Bird-Browne urges Commonwealth action on cancer prevention and care

Works and Housing Minister Maria Bird-Browne has called on Commonwealth countries to strengthen cancer prevention, screening and treatment programmes, urging leaders and their partners to turn awareness into practical action to save the lives of women and girls.

Addressing the CHOGM Spouses and Partners Forum on breast and cervical cancer on Wednesday (November 4) at the John E St Luce Finance and Conference Centre, Bird-Browne said many cervical cancer cases could be prevented through vaccination, while early screening and treatment could save lives.

She noted that access to screening and early treatment varied across the Commonwealth, with geography and financial circumstances often determining whether women could obtain the care they needed.
