Sixteen students who spent the past 5½ months learning live sound engineering put their training into practice at Sound Fest on Saturday, 26 September. They are the inaugural cohort of SoundLeap, a 6-month Grenadian live sound and production initiative launched on 11 April, that provides practical training in audio engineering.

At the Le Phare Bleu lawn in Petite Calivigny, the students worked across the technical side of the Sound Fest event, taking on roles in front-of-house engineering, stage monitoring and stage technology. For the event, they were on site for soundcheck on Friday and Saturday to prepare for the performances and continued after the performances ended, with students staying behind to pack up and return equipment. SoundLeap student Jeavid Neckles, who also performed guitar with Thamara “Song Bird” St Bernard-Neckles was among those involved in both the technical and musical sides of the event.
