The political decision to act as one region has to be made. Then, Government must build the platform, the market, and the engine of innovation to turn our 15 Caricom (Caribbean Community) nations into one factory.
For too long our onshore private sector has been designed to serve a small, protected market. It is good at importing, distributing and waiting on Government. It is not built for risk, for competition or for export. That is not a failure of business. That is the logic of a plantation economy. In a market of 1.4 million people, the safer bet is to lobby, not to produce.
