Ensuring quality education for children with disabilities

Teaser
Around the world, there are multiple national and global policies aimed at ensuring children receive a high-quality education. UN data show rising completion rates worldwide across primary and secondary schools. However, students with physical, intellectual, sensory and mental disabilities are often overlooked, experiencing systemic barriers to obtaining a good-quality education.

In work published between 2019 and 2023, Dr Bephyer Parey, a Research Fellow at the Sir Arthur Lewis Institute of Social and Economic Studies (SALISES) at The University of the West Indies (The UWI) St Augustine, identified several barriers to inclusive education in Trinidad and Tobago.
