A master teacher and researcher has sounded the alarm over teacher burnout in Antigua and Barbuda, warning that the condition may be claiming lives, and the president of the teachers’ union said the crisis has gone unaddressed for far too long.
Lydia Quinn, a master teacher currently pursuing doctoral research on teacher burnout, said colleagues who were among the best in the profession have paid the ultimate price.
“We have teachers who are dropping down dead; young teachers in their 50s and so on. And we want to suspect that it’s teacher burnout,” Quinn said.
