During a recent interview on Observer AM, Orrin Steele — the Director of the Prices and Consumer Affairs Division — shared critical updates within the Consumer Protection Act 2025, focusing specifically on the new mandates for service providers and repair services.

Addressing the implications of Sections 71, 72 and 73, Steele emphasized that the legislation is designed to modernize consumer rights and harmonize Antigua and Barbuda’s trade standards with the wider CARICOM region.

“A central pillar of the new Act is the requirement for all repair services, ranging from mechanics and AC technicians to cell phone and computer repairers, to provide formal documentation,” he stated. He explained that before any work begins, a consumer must receive a document outlining the supplier’s name and contact information, the consumer’s details, the specific nature of the repair, and the total cost. Furthermore, the document must include an estimated value of the item in its current state before the repair.
