In a wide-ranging Cabinet reshuffle, the President, acting on the advice of the Prime Minister and in accordance with Section 79(1) of the Constitution, has approved the reassignment of several key ministerial responsibilities. The changes took effect on October 3. Among the most notable changes is Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar assuming direct responsibility for a set of national development and housing programmes.
These include Heritage Buildings, Constitutional Reform, National Trust, and housing-related initiatives such as the Housing and Village Improvement Programme (HVIP) and the Government Aided Self-Help Housing Programme (GASHHP). In total, the Office of the Prime Minister and 16 ministries have been affected through assignments, reassignments, removals, or reclassifications of responsibilities.
