In the wake of Hurricane Erin, the first major Atlantic hurricane of the 2025 season, the quaint, hurricane-prone community of Grand Turk is confronting the challenges left behind by the storm’s powerful winds and heavy rains.

Although Erin did not make landfall, its effects were deeply felt across the Turks and Caicos Islands, as well as in Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, and the US Eastern Seaboard.

On August 19, Premier Hon Charles Washington Misick, accompanied by the Governor HE Dileeni Daniel-Selvaratnam and Permanent Secretary for National Security Tito Lightbourne, led an official inspection of Grand Turk, Salt Cay, and South Caicos communities.

Travelling via the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) helicopter, the delegation touched down in the most affected communities, aiming to assess damages and reinforce government support for recovery, according to a government statement issued this week.

During their tour, the Premier and Governor observed significant seaweed accumulation along the coastlines and engaged with District Commissioners, members of the Turks and Caicos Islands Regiment, and local leaders.
