The announcement of Tropical Storm Erin on August 14 did not hinder the culmination of the Entrepreneurship Edge Expo at the Multipurpose Cultural Centre. The Department of Youth Affairs (DYA) event formed part of the National Youth Week celebrations, which took place from August 10 to15. “We were a bit concerned about the turnout after the announcement,” said Director of Youth Affairs, Dr. Jrucilla Samuel. “A few entrepreneurs withdrew from the expo due to the storm, but the turnout was still exceptional, even better than last year,” she added.
Not intimidated by the weather, a multitude of budding and seasoned entrepreneurs gathered at Perry Bay to display their creative products and services. From high tech electronics, custom-made items, to blended local drinks and devilish cakes, the Multipurpose Cultural Centre was abuzz.
The expo marks the end of the 2025 Entrepreneurship Edge Programme, which started on June 24. The programme materialised after several months of collecting substantial data for the National Youth Policy. Its purpose is to empower young entrepreneurs with the skills, knowledge, and resources that are critical to youth start-ups and business sustainability. It targeted 50 youth—potential and emerging entrepreneurs—including persons with disabilities. There were several interactive sessions facilitated by experts in diverse fields, such as social entrepreneurship, financial literacy, project management, record-keeping and taxes, as well as human resource development.
