Abstract:

Barbados stands at a critical juncture in its educational journey. Despite high enrollment and completion rates in primary and secondary education and a relatively high level of education spending, the current education system is not delivering on the mission of adequately preparing students for the demands of a modern, knowledge-based economy. This PER examines the adequacy, efficiency, and equity of education spending; assesses resilience of the education system in the face of economic shifts, public health crises, and climate events; and identifies priority actions that aim to secure Barbados’s economic future and social cohesion.
