"Jamaica is recognised internationally for our music, sports, and the vibrancy of our culture. Madam Speaker, though we have many challenges, Jamaica is also becoming known and recognised globally for the successes of our economic reforms and economic recovery. Not only has economic output now surpassed pre-COVID levels, but levels of unemployment are also lower today than the historic lows achieved immediately prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. Madam Speaker, since we have been measuring it, unemployment in Jamaica has never been lower than the 6.0% rate achieved in April 2022. This is more than a full percentage point lower than the 7.2% achieved in January 2020, prior to the onset of the pandemic."
