The global MICS programme was developed by UNICEF in the 1990s as an international household survey programme to support countries in the collection of internationally comparable data on the situation of children and women. MICS surveys measure key indicators that allow countries to generate data for use in policies and programmes, and to monitor progress toward the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) as well as serve as baseline for monitoring the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and other internationally agreed upon commitments. The MICS will help in critically assessing the progress made in national priority areas and identify disparities and assist in evidencebased policymaking to address social exclusion of the most vulnerable in the country.
